The Centrum Hospital in Warsaw, where enel-sport doctors also operate, has received the “Hospital Without Pain” certificate. This does not only put the patients’ minds at ease, but also brings measurable benefits in terms of treatment and rehabilitation.

It will not hurt

The “Hospital Without Pain” certificate is awarded to facilities that meet the demanding criteria not only for surgical procedures, but also for properly trained staff, as well as appropriate equipment and procedures. For patients, however, what is most important is that during their hospital stay, before, during and after the surgery, they will not be in pain. I think this is a key factor that helps the patient manage treatment much better, and it also means greater trust on the part of the patient before treatment, says Dr Jacek Jaroszewski, Medical Director at enel-sport and doctor of the Polish football team. – We are all afraid of pain. I have had several knee operations and we know that pain is one of the factors that makes us consider whether surgery is necessary or not, stresses Dr Jaroszewski.

Pain is harmful to treatment

A hospital without pain provides not only a peace of mind, but also brings measurable benefits in treatment. From my medical point of view, pain is very important, because it creates a series of emotions, consequences that are not talked about: in knee surgery, if the patient feels pain, he is afraid. There is an automatic muscle tightening reflex and, from my observations, it appears that the patient who is afraid feels a lot of pain after the procedure, which significantly increases the risk of quadricep muscle atrophy, says Dr Rafał Mikuseka, specialist in orthopaedics and trauma of the musculoskeletal system.

One of the biggest post-surgery problems may be muscle atrophy, which both doctors and patients often have to struggle with. – In fact it is not the procedure itself, but muscle atrophy and the resulting necessary rehabilitation, that often extend the patient’s recovery period. If the patient does not feel pain, then we meet this condition, but at the same time we are dealing with weaker quadricep muscle atrophy, which shortens the recovery period, adds the doctor.

A peace of mind

A pain-free hospital means not only a peace of mind, but also brings measurable health benefits. So when surgery is necessary, choose well-regarded and proven doctors and a hospital where … it will not hurt!
